July 2018
Our July 2018 hike on the North Grove Trail at
Calaveras Big Trees State Park offered an outing with Kellisa in our Hippocampe
adaptive chair. It was our second hike in the park, following Beaver Creek
Trail, and this route was a little longer and far more scenic. Winding among
the big trees, it gave us a chance to enjoy the forest without the concern that
can come with a more demanding trail.

The North Grove Trail was rated accessible, and our experience was largely consistent with that description.
One short, narrow section had a few rocks, but otherwise the route was well
suited to pushing Kellisa. That small obstacle was worth noting rather than
overlooking: an accessible rating does not necessarily mean every stretch is
completely smooth. For our outing with the Hippocampe, though, the trail
offered a welcome balance of manageable terrain and beautiful surroundings.
